Communication between students and the city

In December 2024, around Independence Day, I was a bit of a slob twice regarding advertising and communication. The first time I was surprised when I asked my friends who were still studying to go to the “Finland’s Best Little Christmas” event. None of my friends had even heard of the event, even though the event’s advertisement had been running on a billboard near the university for months. I had noticed the event myself months earlier. The second time I was surprised Read more…

Opinions about the fortress marquee

Lappeenranta's birthdays in 2024 were amazing. The birthday party included many good innovations, but one of the best was the marquee that served many events. I think it was an excellent decision to rent the marquee for 2025 as well. Currently, the marquee is rented for the festive period. However, I think it would be wise to find out how much it would cost to get your own marquee and how much you could potentially save by having your own marquee. Read more…

Weeran block sandpit

The sand pit in the Weera block has been a nuisance to the cityscape since autumn 2021. The mayor made an announcement about the matter in the autumn, where he said that the area of the pit will be cleaned up temporarily. Although cleaning up is a reasonable temporary solution, I think it is high time to start construction and put the site in order. Understandably, the situation is challenging, because the construction costs are high and the shopping center Read more…

Harbor line and parking lots

In recent months, the city of Lappeenranta has been running a zoning project called “Our Beaches”. I went to see the project at the city hall. I was generally satisfied with the latest plans, but one thing in the plan annoyed me significantly. Although the harbor straight had already been identified as problematic during the planning stage, little had been done to the straight. In my opinion, the biggest problem with the straight is that it Read more…

The future of Lappeenranta Airport

Lappeenranta Airport has been underused for a long time. The airport's decline really started after the completion of faster train connections. I think the airport is one of the most difficult political issues in Lappeenranta. The airport is currently underused and is constantly costing the city's residents hundreds of thousands of euros. Although the airport is currently quite quiet, it is possible that in the future Read more…

Lappeenranta arena project

A new ice rink/arena has been planned for Lappeenranta for years. According to the latest decision, a new ice rink will not be built, at least not yet, but the old ice rink will be repaired. I think the decision not to build a new arena was a bad one. A new arena would have brought a much-needed new large event space to Lappeenranta and shown that this city also dares to do it. Of the places that were on the agenda, I think the construction of an arena Read more…

Towards a more positive Lappeenranta!

Chronic depression has taken over Lappeenranta. The situation on the eastern border and the dwindling number of jobs are likely to fuel negativity. However, we should not become pessimistic. Instead, we should be aware of the problems, find solutions to them, and implement them. The city has good models for getting back on its feet. Only a few years ago, there was even a glimmer of hope that LUT would be closed down. Under pressure, the university will not Read more…

Ehdolla kunta- ja aluevaaleissa

Announcement of candidacy

Now it's official! I am running for the municipal and regional elections 2025 on the National Coalition Party list. I decided to run for the municipal elections because I see massive future potential in my hometown of Lappeenranta, which is not yet fully exploited. I want to be involved in creating and developing future solutions that will make Lappeenranta an even more vibrant and better city for everyone to live in. I am running for the regional elections, Read more…
